You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.

One of these fine days I’ll get around to updating this page to include some evidence of my fantastic passion for photography (although I must point out that at this stage my fantastic passion is unmatched by fantastic skill). For the moment, though, I’ll just let you know that I’ve uploaded some of my favourite pics to a new Flickr page, which can be found here.

And I think I’ll occasionally add some photos that I’ve included in various blog posts. Like this one.

Sometimes I might put up a picture to which I’ve had an interesting response and ask you to let me know what you think of it. I’ve not quite made up my mind about this one… All comments welcome!

Only one of my posts so far has focused more on pictures than words. I’d spent a day in the mountains, mesmerised by hot-air balloons, and realised that my eye and my camera lens were unusually drawn to people. A few of the pictures I took that day of actual human beings can be found here. And here’s as a taster.

After that experience I started to contemplate the street photographer’s dilemma – do you ask permission from people to take their photograph, and if so, when and how do you ask? My thoughts on the subject, and some pictures of people who were delighted to be photographed at the Venetian Carnival in Annecy, France, can be found here. Venetian silver

Ooh, and below are the beginnings of an on-going project which I’ll continue to add to as the seasons change and change and change again…
